19.00 = ADVENTURE in DENMARK (35mm)
Directed by Fan Ho, 90 min., 1973, in Cantonese with English subtitles / This Hong Kong rareity involves two Asian dudes who win a trip to Copenhagen (!!!) in the midst of the sexual revolution. Strange, enchanting, action-packed and full of bizarre stereotypes about what Denmark is really like – particularly Danish women. It’s treat for lovers of local color as our heroes fall in and out of love with over-sexed and often naked Danish lasses and battle a rival gang on the streets of the Danish capital. Extremely entertaining!
21.00 = STREET FIGHTER (35mm)
Directed by Shigehiro Ozawa, 1974, 90 min., In English dialogue with Danish subtitles / the uncut 35mm print will screen.
If you’ve ever watched “True Romance,” this is one of the 3 films Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette are watching in the cinema. This is the best of the three; even now the fight scenes kick ass and it’s disturbingly violent. The special effects are gruesome. At 1 hour and 27 minutes, “The Street Fighter” moves along at a frenetic pace, and the film clearly has had a huge influence on martial arts and action cinema since. Sonny Chiba is at his brutal best, playing a tough mercenary master of martial arts. This cult classic should not be missed!
